Chicken and Dumplings

There is really nothing like soul food, and when we think about soul food here at Abingdon Olive Oil Company one of the first things that comes to mind is chicken and dumplings. If you never had a family member cook you a fantastic recipe then we have the pleasure of bringing you one today that is chock full of love, from our Happy Hearts to yours. 


  • Abingdon Olive Oil Company Tuscan Herb OO
  • 2 carrots diced

  • 2 stalks celery diced

  • 1 onion diced

  • 1¼ cup flour

  • Basiks Napa or Italian seasoning

  • 2 cups cooked diced or shredded chicken

  • 4 cups chicken broth

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • salt and pepper

  • AOOC Harissa OO


  1. Sauté carrots, onions and celery in a heavy drizzle of AOOC Tuscan Herb OO in a large pot over medium high heat until slightly browned and soft.

  2. Add ¼ cup of flour, stirring to coat. Add chicken broth and bring to a boil.

  3. Turn the heat down to simmer and add ½ cup milk and the chicken. Season with salt and pepper.

  4. To make the dumplings, mix together the remaining 1 cup of flour, 1 teaspoon salt, baking powder, and a shake of Basiks Napa Seasoning .

  5. Stir in 2 Tbsp AOOC Tuscan Herb OO, until flour mixture is crumbly looking.

  6. Add the remaining ½ cup of milk and stir until just combined.

  7. Cookie scoop or spoon small pieces into the simmering pot, and cook for 15 minutes or until the dumplings rise to the top.

  8. Serve garnished with a little spice from AOOC’s Harissa OO and enjoy!
